When Lily was just a 13-year-old teenager, Aiden stole her heart - forever. He was the first boy she fell in love with, the first boy who made her feel like a young woman. When she turned 18, he took her virginity, and she thought that happily ever after was just around the corner for them. And, indeed, five years later, when she was 23, Aiden promised her that their love was unbreakable, destined to last for ages.
However, it took him another five years to break that promise and to break her fragile heart. So, now she's a 33-year-old woman, but her heart is still aching from all the pain he caused her. Lily is not really sure that she'll ever be able to love another man again, because, even though Aiden did turn out to be a complete moron, she still loves him like crazy.
And then, out of the blue, he comes knocking on her door. 5 Years is a moving, touching story, a journey of two young people who have taken different roads but found their way back to each other. It's well-written, driven, fast-paced and riveting. The narrative jumps back and forth in time, but that only adds to the awesome atmosphere of the book, without getting the readers confused or frustrated.
The bottom line is - if you love romantic/dramatic/erotic novels with a happy ending, make sure to check 5 Years Later. Who knows, maybe you'll fall in love with the characters? They most certainly are worth your while! Casey and Kidman did a brilliant job with creating lovely yet vulnerable characters, as opposed to the walking-talking "robots" that we see in the modern-day bestselling romantic novels.
