The Kay Scarpetta series is one of the "old-timers" in the world of mystery thrillers. It's been around for ages, and Chaos is the 24th installment in the long-living franchise. As always, the stakes are high, the action is furious and the tension is ever-rising. Elisa, a 26-year-old girl, was just driving her bicycle on a wonderful autumn day, and somebody murdered her in cold blood. That's what Kay thinks.
The official statement claims that she was struck by lightning, but there was no single cloud in the sky, so it's obvious that nature had nothing to do with the girl's death. And when Kay arrives at the scene, she argues that this was no Act Of God and that they're dealing with something entirely different. Soon, the investigation becomes even more sophisticated, as some mysterious poet starts to send her all kinds of messages.
Now, even though Scarpetta is still sure about her conclusions about the accident/murder, the bully from the other side of the screen keeps sending her threatening poems. The 10th poem hits her mail exactly 24 hours after the poor girl's death, and that's when Kay calls Benton, her husband, an agent with the FBI and Pete, her partner, for help. She even puts Lucy on the "team of trackers", but even she fails to track the elusive cybercriminal.
Finally, the media starts to accuse the department of doing a bad job and makes the public question their every move. With a crazy murderer walking the streets, that's the last thing Kay needs. Chaos is a fast-paced mystery thriller for the fans of the legendary forensic analyst. If you've been cheering for Scarpetta, you'll definitely love the latest addition to the series.
