Deepest fear of that sort is about the Headless Horseman. People talk that some years ago this man was a mercenary and one day a cannon ball was severed his head from the body completely. Ichabod Crane, however, thinks about all those stories as about fairy tales.

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' is the most famous and gruesome story of the American writer Washington Irving, which he wrote between 1818 and 1819. It has some film adaptations, including the magnificent version of Tim Burton with Johnny Depp in the role of Ichabod Crane. Its plot is quite different from the book but no less interesting.
