The Sword Of Summer, Rick Riordan's best-selling novel, tells the story of Magnus, a kid who's never been like everybody else. Ever since his mom died, he's been surviving on the harsh city streets, relying only on himself and trying to get out of the slums. He's always able to outsmart the cops and uses his wits to stay strong on both legs. One fine day, a man approaches him and claims to be his uncle.
Magnus remembers that his mother told him not to trust his uncle, but the man reveals a secret that changes his life completely: the kid's father is a real-world god, which makes him a demigod. All the myths and theories about the Vikings are true, and they're all getting ready for a war. Asgard is in the center of it all, and giants and other horrifying creatures are coming for the end of the world, which is known as Ragnarok.
So, what can Magnus, a newly-discovered god do to prevent all this? He must travel to the Nine Worlds and find a tremendously powerful weapon that was nowhere to be found for the last couple of millenniums. Soon, fire giants make a devastating attack that makes Magnus choose between a normal, relatively safe life and a dangerous battle against the monsters. And the boy's decision might be the wrong one...
However, in this world, the only way to be reborn and embark on a new journey is to die. Rick Riordan did a marvelous job with Magnus Chase: the characters are amazing, the narrative is fast-paced and action-packed, and the never-ending fight against evil is full of twists and turns. It's a perfect book for the kids who love fantasy and you can read it together!
