The Great Divorce by C. S. Lewis

This is a wonderful allegorical tale that invites all the readers into a "joy ride" on a bus headed from hell all the way up to the heavens. The book is a highly unusual and exciting meditation upon good, evil, kindness, judgment, faith, and everything else in between. The idea behind Lewis's narrative is that the big, ugly gates of Hell are locked tight from the inside, not the outside.

And the man uses his brilliant writing style to educate us all on what truly means to be good and what truly means to be bad. In these uncertain times, when we've got numerous religions, social groups, political movements, etcetera, etcetera, a grounding book like The Great Divorce is vital for understanding who we are, where we're headed and what is our purpose on this beautiful planet.

Lewis's brand-new masterpiece bears a pretty strong resemblance to Dante's legendary poem - Divine Comedy. So, yeah, this book is not about big bad alpha males and innocent virgin ladies with big secrets or top-notch special agents that fight the Russian invasion and/or protect the Earth from alien invaders. It might be a bit hard (not to say tedious) to "get into" this book at first, but, if you manage to go through the first 10 pages or so, you'll be rewarded handsomely.

The bottom line is - if you appreciate one-of-a-kind, thought-provoking and genre-bending novels about mankind and everything that truly matters in this life, The Great Divorce will be a great discovery for you. Give Lewis a chance - he might just stun and fascinate you with his wits, exceptional writing, and captivating narrative.
