The Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allan Poe

This gripping story by the unforgettable writer Edgar Allan Poe tells of Prince Prospero escaping death in the monastery and hiding inside. The reason for hiding is a deadly plague known as the Red Death. He is hiding in seven sections in the monastery with other wealthy nobles and the story continues during the masquerade process. In the midst of all this fun, a victim of the Red Death enters the monastery and visits all the rooms one by one. This story has many Gothic fictions in itself. The book draws a unique picture of the inevitability of death and provides an allegorical reading. This work, which has been widely criticized by critics, offers interesting interpretations against understanding diseases.
